Synthesizing narrative and data for actionable solutions

“Hope, not as a shallow practice of optimism, but as a deep knowledge of possibility and resilience.”—Ricardo Levins Morales

Marysol is part of several TCC Positive Action initiatives for ViiV Healthcare, and works to support programming and grantmaking. Additionally, she has contributed to the cross-program Reframing Risk work, which shifts the narrative around HIV care towards a more expansive vision of positive sexuality and holistic health.

Marysol is talented at synthesizing major themes and drawing out key insights. She is a detail-oriented project manager who is skilled at setting priorities. She also seeks out educational opportunities that enrich the whole TCC team and add dimension to shared goals and visions.

Marysol has found that stories become more powerful when told in conjunction with research and data. Her approach to social sector challenges is therefore both narrative and analytic. Marysol intentionally works in the sweet spot where the qualitative and the quantitative enrich one another.

When Hurricane Maria struck her native Puerto Rico, she realized that an impactful response would arise from listening to those on the front lines of experience. In the wake of the disaster, it was in her work as both a writer and an organizer that she crystallized her commitment to community-led solution building.

In her work with the Brooklyn Community Foundation, she created new pathways for grant-making by engaging existing community partners, and holding additional stakeholder listening sessions. She continued this work in later experiences with grantee capacity building at the Catalogue for Philanthropy, where her workshop on nonprofit storytelling was an important contribution.
