Kate brings her experiences and special talent at writing to TCC, where she elevates the voices of people closest to the issues. She is supporting the Integrated Initiatives team in their Risk to Reason campaign, shifting HIV messaging from a fear-based to a life-affirming framework, prioritizing sexual health. Kate is lending her expertise to interviewing people in the field, writing reports, and supervising social media.

Kate’s entry into the social justice arena came in college; while tutoring incarcerated teenage boys, she saw the value of engaging in destigmatized relationships first-hand. Her understanding of systemic oppression deepened during her internship with Dream Corps, where she supported incarcerated women’s right to healthcare. She authored a report about the organization’s efforts to change unjust legislation in several states, including outlawing the shackling of women during childbirth. After creating her own undergraduate major – Intersectional Equity – Kate’s senior thesis took her to Thailand where she wrote a report on the influence of neo-liberalism on international aid, economic policies and the sex industry.

Kate’s first job was with the LOHM, a Harlem-based criminal justice reform organization, where she focused on changing the narrative of incarceration and supporting women impacted by the criminal legal system. She produced press releases, supervised media relations, and wrote copy for all digital platforms.
