Dreaming Bigger: Lessons Learned in Creating the AMP Grant Initiative

Since its inception, ViiV Healthcare has pioneered innovative approaches to funding grassroots initiatives, maintaining an unwavering commitment to amplifying the voices and experiences of people living with and affected by HIV. As the Positive Action AMP Grant initiative approaches its fifth year, this transformative program represents a bold step toward eliminating stigma and empowering communities to lead meaningful change in HIV prevention, treatment, and care.

Working in close collaboration with TCC Group, ViiV Healthcare has expanded its evaluation efforts to assess the impact and effectiveness of the AMP Grant model as an innovative mechanism for funding grassroots initiatives. Our comprehensive evaluation approach combines multiple data collection methods, including qualitative and quantitative reporting, storytelling, and in-depth case studies with three organizations and their micro-grantees.

The findings reveal both promising successes and important challenges, highlights best practices for funders interested in funding grassroots efforts, and shares lessons from the field for intermediary funders interested in developing micro-granting and incubation models that uplift and support community leaders and projects.

The Positive Action AMP Grant initiative and Dreaming Bigger report highlights how TCC Group collaborates with clients to make a greater social impact through integrated initiative design and implementation, trust-based grantmaking, innovative evaluation and learning, and strategic communication. With the support of TCC Group, ViiV Healthcare has been able to better meet the needs of and fund grassroots and emerging organizations and individuals leading at the intersections of movements to address disparities in sexual health outcomes.
